For the past five years, Montel Technologies has managed the video surveillance and security card access at the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago.
The landmark-status building houses the Circuit Court of Cook County and sees about 30,000 visits each day. General Manager Andre Wiggins praised Montel’s team for its responsiveness and creativity.
“One of the best parts of working with them is that they’re small enough that I can often talk to [Founder and President Ray Montelongo] directly, but he also employs a very knowledgeable staff,” Wiggins said. “It’s almost as if one or two guys can do the work of 10 to 20 people.
“We are very happy with their work.”
Wiggins highlighted a 2017 project where Montel created a temporary solution during a two-month construction project at the site. The building has two ramps – one where employees enter and one where they exit. Repairs being made to the entry ramp required people to come and go through the exit ramp, which didn’t have a security card reader.
Ray and his team installed a temporary card reader in a small metal box with a light that turns green if someone is allowed in and shows no color if they’re not allowed inside the building. The box is wireless, lending to its ease of use.
“They came up with that in a week,” Wiggins recalled. “It’s those types of things that make the difference. This was a big project for us, to still get people in the parking area and verify their security access. Ray is very cognizant of our environment and really understands our needs.”
Daley Center officials learned about Montel from City of Chicago and Cook County leaders, who are also clients of Montel.
“Whenever we’re working on projects, he always seems to have somebody around and available, which is very important to us because this is a 1.5 million-square-foot building with 300 courtrooms. Whenever there’s an issue, it’s good to have someone who can get here quickly.”
Montel also installed and maintains the turnstile systems in the center’s lobby and concourse.
